Bongo General Information

Bongos were brought to South America from Africa during the slave trade era. Today, bongo drumming is synonymous with the Cuban music styles known as Changui and Son.

Bongo drum sets are two single-headed drums that manufacturers connect together. It is common for one of the drums in the set to be larger (hembra) than the other (macho). Musicians normally hold the drum set lightly beween their knees, letting the drums rest on their calves. They usually hold the larger drum under their dominant hand, and play the drums using their hands.
